IKONSO: DSS Tells  Court, Nnamdi Kanu Allegedly Called For ‘2000 Heads’ To Bury Slain ESN Commander

A recent report from Daily Post has shed light on the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Federal High Court in Abuja. During the proceedings, a Department of State Services (DSS) operative gave a troubling testimony against Kanu.

The DSS officer revealed that in a radio broadcast dated April 25, 2021, Kanu made a provocative statement in reaction to the death of Eastern Security Network (ESN) commander, Ikonso, who was killed by security operatives in Awomama, Imo State, just a day earlier. In the broadcast, Kanu allegedly declared that Ikonso’s burial would involve “2000 heads,” a statement seen as a call for mass violence.

The court admitted this broadcast and several other audio recordings as evidence, portraying Kanu’s rhetoric as inflammatory and potentially inciting violence. According to the DSS testimony, Kanu eulogized Ikonso, praised his actions, and vowed revenge. He also claimed Ikonso was killed while asleep, not during combat, further fueling anger among his followers.

Additionally, the DSS operative referenced a confession from a detained IPOB member identified as Emeyiri Uzoma Benjamin, also known as “Onye Army.” Benjamin allegedly confessed that IPOB members indeed intended to carry out Kanu’s orders but were only able to kill 30 people instead of the targeted 2000.

“Kanu stated that Ikonso would be buried with 2000 heads. But when we arrested one IPOB member, Emeyiri Uzoma Benjamin, also known as Onye Army, he confessed that they were only able to get 30,” the operative told the court.

The testimony is being used by the prosecution to support charges of terrorism and incitement to violence against the IPOB leader, whose case continues to draw national and international attention.
